CBD and Skin Care

Acne is a common skin condition that affects more than 9% of the population.

It is thought to be caused by a number of factors, including genetics, bacteria, underlying inflammation and the overproduction of sebum, an oily secretion made by the many sebaceous glands in skin tissue. What's that have to do with CBD, you ask?
Many users of CBD are now realizing it’s a safe and efficient way to treat acne, thanks in part to its remarkable anti-inflammatory qualities.

Though these results are promising, human studies exploring the effects of CBD on acne are needed.

So where’s the science at?

Based on
recent scientific studies, CBD oil may help treat acne due to its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to reduce and/or regulate sebum production.

CBD oil is now regarded as a preventive in sebaceous gland cells from secreting excessive sebum. The findings are thought to be a result of exerted anti-inflammatory actions and prevented the activation of “pro-acne” agents like inflammatory cytokines from endocannabinoid regulation.

Let’s dive into the current marketplace for skin care and see where cannabidiol fits in:

Since California’s legalization, there has been a landslide of interest in the market for hemp and marijuana-derived products. For states where medical and recreational use is prohibited though, the next logical step seemed to fall under the umbrella of CBD.

Now, it only makes sense to see it infiltrate the beauty market, too.

Uses and Benefits

The difference between cannabis and cannabidiol can be pretty unclear to a new user, but cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabis compound without the typical psychoactive effects. Here’s a brief intro on its usage.

Instead of cannabis which can impart a high feeling, CBD is focused on the therapeutic side of things.

Skin care products made with this compound can provide relief from pain, anxiety, and inflammation.
Research has shown that CBD can be an extremely effective treatment for multiple conditions, including psoriasis, schizophrenia, depression, epilepsy, and others.

However, CBD isn’t just good inside of the body. It can be a wonder treatment when applied topically, too. Studies have found that CBD oil can have anti-inflammatory effects on the skin and can be effective for dry skin and
acne.

Since the usual skin care treatments include either vitamin C, E, A, and omega-3 fatty acids, hemp seed oil contains all of these properties, making it an effective skin treatment product.

How to Choose A CBD Skin Product

If you’re looking to find a moisturizer or oil to help tame the random small, dry patches around the face, there’s a gamut of facial skin products to choose from. Dehydration can be a clear sign of fatigued skin simply imparting moisture through a lotion might not be enough.

Typical, run-of-the-mill lotions use parabens, and this is looked down upon in the high-end skin care community.

A quick Google search will help you discover for yourself whether you deem them safe but essentially a paraben is a chemical class of preservatives that are thought to disrupt the body's’ estrogen and hormone cycles in some ways.

One golden rule for selecting a CBD-infused skin product is to search the labels and find those with very few ingredients, and all of which should be easy to pronounce.

Here’s the typical ingredients list one should expect to see.

Ingredients: organic hemp seed oil, cannabis flowers, essential oils.

Hopefully this has given you some insight on what to look for when buying skin care products within the scope of the CBD market.

There’s a lot of products to look through. If you have additional tips, please leave them in the comments.

Happy Information Friday!
